Difference between 3-Part and 5-Part Hematology Analyzers for Cats' Neutering

    2024-09-16

When it comes to spaying and neutering cats, the blood routine test is an extremely important examination item. Among them, the choice between a 3-Part Hematology Analyzer and a 5-Part Hematology Analyzer has become a topic of concern for many pet owners.

Let's take a look at the development and application of blood routine tests in pet medicine. Fifteen years ago, such tests were simply not available. No matter how much money one had, this service could not be enjoyed. At that time, it was all about "a surgical knife for all neutering tasks", showing a certain boldness. When Teacher Wu (a graduate student at Southwest University) went for an internship at a pet hospital in Chongqing, there was only a stethoscope and a small table. It's hard to imagine that surgeries were performed without any auxiliary examinations like blood routine data.

Ten years ago, blood routine tests began to emerge as a high-end optional service. "Our hospital can conduct blood routine examinations." This became a highlight of high-end pet hospitals. At that time, for Teacher Wu (a teacher of animal medicine at Southwest University), having blood routine examination equipment in a pet hospital was indeed something worthy of mention. There was even a time when some pet hospitals prominently displayed signs saying "Our hospital can conduct blood routine examinations." Back then, having a 3-Part Hematology Analyzer was already remarkable.

Nowadays, blood routine tests are an absolute necessity. Without them, surgeries carry risks. Blood routine tests have truly fulfilled the literal meaning of their name. The 3-Part and 5-Part Hematology Analyzers have become essential items in pet medical care. It is now a default and accepted setting that pet hospitals can conduct blood routine examinations.

The 3-Part Hematology Analyzer is a routine examination mainly suitable for outpatient clinics and patients with mild diseases. The price is relatively cheaper. On the other hand, the 5-Part Hematology Analyzer is suitable for more severe cases and higher-level hospitals, and the examination cost is relatively higher.

The biggest difference between the 3-Part and 5-Part Hematology Analyzers is that the latter is more detailed. The 3-Part Analyzer examines red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The 5-Part Analyzer examines red blood cells, intermediate cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils, and platelets. In other words, the 5-Part Analyzer further subdivides the white blood cells (intermediate cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils) that are grouped together in the 3-Part Analyzer.

In conclusion, if conditions permit, choosing a 5-Part Hematology Analyzer is more suitable for long-term use in the future. However, the 3-Part Hematology Analyzer can also handle most common blood routine examinations. Combined with manual blood smear microscopy, it does not affect the accurate judgment of data.

Understanding the differences between these two types of hematology analyzers can help pet owners make more informed decisions when it comes to their cats' health care, especially during important procedures like neutering. It also highlights the progress and development of pet medical technology over the years, providing better diagnostic tools for ensuring the well-being of our furry friends.
